Today, I just wanted to share 5 steps I took to change my eating habits and follow a clean eating lifestyle. As I have mentioned before in my older post, I don’t really follow a specific diet. I try to eat high protein meals that also incorporate carbs and healthy fats.
I don’t like feeling restricted and diets make me feel just that, so I stay away from them because they just don’t last forever, well at least not for me!
So here goes my list:
1. Give up/reduce alcohol
From going to drinks every weekend, I now have drinks on very rare occasions. When I drink its maybe a few glasses of Prosecco, or a couple of nice cocktails. I was super strict for a year where I didn’t really drink a sip of alcohol, but life is short and we got to enjoy it, so when celebrating something special a couple of drinks won’t kill you or stop your progress.
2. Stop eating processed foods/fried foods
Eat whole foods which include: fruits, vegetables and complex carbs like wholegrain rice or sweet potatoes. Find healthy alternatives to the things you love and experiment in the kitchen. After a few weeks of eating whole foods, you begin to feel the benefits in your gut, skin and overall energy levels.
3. Cut out sugary carbonated drinks
I drink water, green, peppermint or camomile tea on a daily basis. Once in a while I will have coconut water, especially when I am on a tropical holiday. However, mainly it will always be cold water and I try to get in my 2 litres a day.
4. Eat breakfast
Never miss breakfast, since I adopted a healthy lifestyle, eating breakfast means I have energy to workout and I am less likely to binge. Also if I don’t eat in the morning, I am in a super bad mood. So not having breakfast is an absolute no go for me!
5. Five meals a day
Your days should compromise of three main meals and 2 snacks. This works really well for me, as it keeps me fuller for longer and my metabolism in gear throughout the day. I also try to incorporate protein in every meal to feed my muscles, which prevent those dreaded binge sessions.
These steps are super useful to me, and I hope they work for you. This is how I started following a healthier lifestyle that I am able to stick to. When I fall off the wagon I remember these 5 points and get back on it!
Naturally,
Sweebs xx
